Hotspot overview

The Hotspot module runs prepaid, voucher-based Wi-Fi: customers buy a card, enter a username and password, and get online for a set time, speed and data allowance. It has its own section in the sidebar with five pages — Overview, Profiles, Cards, Reports and Print. This page explains how the pieces fit; the Overview dashboard itself gives you the running numbers.

How the pieces fit

A profile defines what a card is worth — speed, data limit, validity and price. Cards (vouchers) are generated against a profile, either one at a time or in bulk batches, each with its own username and password. Cards are then handed to customers to sell, printed for the counter from the Print page, and tracked through their lifecycle. Reports summarise sales and activation over time.

The card lifecycle

Every card moves through a set of statuses that the dashboard tracks: Unused (generated but not yet activated, available for sale), Active (a customer has logged in and the clock is running), Used, Expired (validity elapsed) and Disabled. Understanding these states is the key to reading the rest of the module — the same statuses drive the filters on the Cards page and the totals on Reports.

The Overview dashboard

The Hotspot > Overview page opens on headline tiles: Total Cards (with how many were created this week), Active Cards (and how many users are online now), Unused Cards available for sale, and Total Revenue from sold cards. Below that, a Daily Activations chart plots the last 30 days, a Card Status Distribution pie breaks the stock down by state, and panels show Quick Stats (batches, used, expired and disabled counts) and Top Profiles by Cards.

Tip: start by creating at least one profile, then generate a batch of cards against it. The Overview tiles only come to life once cards exist.
