XRTG overview

XRTG (the Xelynx Router Traffic Grapher) watches the interfaces on your network routers and draws live bandwidth graphs from them. It polls each router over SNMP, records the traffic on every interface you switch on, and lets you run on-demand ping and traceroute tests straight from the router. Everything lives under the XRTG section of the CRM.

How it works

XRTG runs on one or more XRTG servers — lightweight collectors that sit close to your network and do the SNMP polling. You add your routers to a server, XRTG discovers each router's interfaces, and you choose which interfaces to graph. Every chosen interface becomes a probe: a single graphed line of inbound and outbound traffic. The CRM talks to the XRTG servers on your behalf, so you work entirely inside Xelynx.

The three pages

XRTG is organised into three pages, each covered by its own guide:

• Routers — add the routers you want to monitor, give XRTG their SNMP details, and pick which interfaces to graph.
• Graphs — browse your servers, routers and interfaces in a tree and watch live traffic graphs with current, peak and average figures.
• Traffic diagnosis — run live ping and traceroute from a router to hunt down latency, packet loss and routing problems.

Access

XRTG is part of Xelynx's networking area, so what you can do depends on your role. Viewing graphs and running diagnostics needs view access; adding, editing or deleting routers needs the matching add, edit and delete permissions. If you don't see the XRTG pages or the action buttons, ask an administrator to adjust your role.
