Network Planner
The Network Planner is an AI tool that designs FTTH infrastructure over a real map area for you — where to place OLTs, how to run fibers, where street splitters (FATs) go, and what it should all cost. Draw a polygon around the area you want to serve, set a few parameters, and let the planner lay out the network. It lives under Maps in the NMS.
Availability
The Network Planner is an AI feature. If AI is not part of your subscription the page shows a notice asking you to enable AI from the client portal. Once enabled, it appears in the sidebar under Maps → Network Planner.
Step 1 — Select the area
Click Draw Area and click points on the map to outline the region you want to plan; double-click (or click the first point again) to close the polygon. Use the eraser button to clear it and start over.
Step 2 — Set the parameters
Tell the engine how to design the network:
- Number of OLTs: how many OLTs to place. The engine divides the area by building density (denser areas get smaller sub-areas) and puts each OLT at the best site in its sub-area.
- Max ONUs / port: the planned maximum subscribers per PON port.
- OLT Tx dBm: the OLT transmit power for the optical budget.
- Fiber dB/km: the fiber attenuation used in the loss calculation.
- Min Rx dBm: the minimum acceptable receive power at the ONU.
- FTTH street splitters (FATs): enable to place FATs along the fibers, with a configurable FAT spacing in metres. FAT and distribution splitters are otherwise placed automatically by buildings and power.
Click Auto-Plan Infrastructure to run the planner. A progress overlay shows while it works.
Reading the plan
When the plan is ready the map fills with the proposed OLTs, splitters and fiber routes, and the side panel reveals three sections:
- Fiber Legend (cores): a colour key for the fiber cores; untick an item to hide it on the map.
- Summary: the headline figures for the design.
- Cost Estimate: a per-item breakdown and a Total, with a currency symbol you can change.
Click a point on the planned route to open the Core connectivity view, which shows how each input core is split or spliced through and the optical power in and out at each stage.
Saving & reopening plans
Use Save to store a plan under a name (for example Phase 1 – North district), Open to reload a saved plan, and New to start a fresh one.
